One of our primary objectives is to nurture partnerships with like-minded organizations and government agencies to help deliver programs that support Black women and their families.  Towards that end, and either independently or with partners, we accomplished the following:

  • Host Celebration of Music Concert
  • Offer youth programs
    • Netball for Youth
    • Drumming Workshop
    • Steelpan for Youth
    • Exploring Caribbean Culture  for the Arts
  • Together with Oshawa Whitby Chapter, and in partnership with Durham Public Libraries, hosted a Virtual Panel Discussion on Combatting Anti-Black Racism in Education, Health, Economy, and the Justice System
  • In partnership with Side By Side, hosted a Mother’s Day celebration MOM-OSA experience for members and mothers in the community
  • Develop and deliver Online Technology Training for Seniors to improve their technical expertise and familiarity with social media platforms, support their social participation and inclusion, and expand their awareness of fraud and elder financial abuse
  • In partnership with Ajax Public Library and led by Ontario Tech University, held a 4-week Coding Workshop introducing Grades 1 to 4 Black children to the fundamentals of coding
  • Identify and create opportunities for students in grades 9 to 12 to accumulate community service hours towards meeting the provincial requirement for Grade 12 graduation
  • Host Christmas Holiday parties for children and distribute toys in the community
  • Adopted two families for Christmas, providing them with food hampers and gifts
  • Organize fundraising events to raise funds required to support various community initiatives
    • Apply for and secure grants in support of community initiatives
